Modern in the Middle Virtual Book Launch

If you’re involved in group having to do with modern architecture in the Chicago area, or if you’ve been to events through Chicago Bauhaus & Beyond or Chicago Architecture Center, there’s a good chance you’ve met or unknowingly crossed paths with historian and preservationist Susan Benjamin. Together with IIT professor Michaelangelo Sabatino, Susan has created a beautiful collection of modern homes designed & built in the Chicago area between 1929 and 1975, called Modern in the Middle, out now through The Monacelli Press.

On Thursday, October 15th, 2020 at 5:30pm, the Mies Society, the College of Architecture and Chicago Architecture Center will host a virtual book launch of this wonderful, 340+ page book online. There’s no cost, and there will be a panel discussion as part of the online event.

If you’re in the Chicago area, you can purchase a signed copy of the book from the IIT bookstore at 3201 S. State Street for $50. Otherwise, it’s available online, but do sign up for the virtual event as it’s sure to add some additional context and personality to what is already a fantastic resource.
