Homes You Missed: April 2021 Edition


The market is moving SO fast these days that it’s easy to miss a house when it comes to market. Often, homes are going under contract from the private network without ever making it to market, or within the first few days on the market. If you don’t get in to see them right away, chances are you could miss out on a fantastic home.

Here are a few modern homes that are under contract. Could you see yourself in any of them?

Sitting on nearly 5 1/2 acres, this 1,931 square foot ranch has an interesting combination of spaces that are more original to 1956 and some that have been remodeled more recently. The large sunken living room is a particularly nice space for a home of this price, and the price ($450,000) is even more attractive when you consider the size of the lot. The home was on the market for over a month before going under contract.

239 Oak Knoll Rd – Barrington Hills

The former personal residence of architect Edward Dart, this cool split level has only had two owners: The Darts, and the family selling the house now. Set on 5 acres, the house is around 2,600 square feet with 4 bedrooms, 2 full and 2 half baths, and has a 3-stall modern style horse barn to go with it. Much of the home is either original, or probably last updated in the ’70s, and despite a lot of deferred maintenance, especially on the exterior, this home will be spectacular again in the right hands. Listed at $550,000, the home went under contract from the PLN with no call for offers.

Under contract in less than a week, this 3,200 square foot split level overlooking a golf course has some really beautiful spaces and materials, including lots of exposed stone, wood and plank and beam ceilings, not to mention loads of floor to ceiling and other large windows. The kitchen has been opened up in recent years, and the Primary Suite features a spacious sitting room / office / study. Listed at $699,900.

1274 Oak Trail Dr – Libertyville

Just a short walk to the nearby forest preserve, this 1965 ranch boasts over 3,000 square feet with a great room with vaulted ceilings, solar panels, geothermal HVAC system, a feature stairway leading the basement and more. It went under contract in 4 days with a list price of $849,000.

901 Thackeray Dr – Highland Park

Another recent remodel, this 3,000+ square foot 1963 split level went under contract after just 4 days, with a list price of $874,999. The exterior features brick construction with lots of big windows and even a breeze block wall – something we don’t see too often in the Chicago suburbs. Inside, some wood slat room dividers are another design touch that feels a bit more mid-century.

416 Sheridan Rd – Wilmette

Standing just one house away from Lake Michigan, it’s no wonder this 1958 split level went contingent after less than 2 weeks on the market, even with a list price of $1,895,000.  Many large windows offer views of the yard and nearby Bahai Temple, and the kitchen and baths were all recently updated.
