If you’re involved in group having to do with modern architecture in the Chicago area, or if you’ve been to events through Chicago Bauhaus & Beyond or Chicago Architecture Center, there’s a good chance you’ve met or unknowingly crossed paths with historian and preservationist Susan Benjamin. Together with IIT professor Michaelangelo Sabatino, Susan has created a beautiful collection of modern homes designed & built in the Chicago area between 1929 and 1975, called Modern in the Middle, out now through The Monacelli Press.
On Thursday, October 15th, 2020 at 5:30pm, the Mies Society, the College of Architecture and Chicago Architecture Center will host a virtual book launch of this wonderful, 340+ page book online. There’s no cost, and there will be a panel discussion as part of the online event.
If you’re in the Chicago area, you can purchase a signed copy of the book from the IIT bookstore at 3201 S. State Street for $50. Otherwise, it’s available online, but do sign up for the virtual event as it’s sure to add some additional context and personality to what is already a fantastic resource.
